Dear Family and Friends,
We’ve almost completed a month of our mission. We have either been busy, or too tired to reflect and update you all on our progress. But things are starting to fall into place and we want you to know that we love you, miss you and are very grateful for your prayers and support.
We arrived in Honolulu in the afternoon of the 22 of August. We were met at the airport for some fellow missionaries and President and Sister Bassett. We were greeted with hugs and a kukui nut lei. There were 22 missionaries that came in on our flight. The president had a U-Haul to carry all of our luggage. We were driven up the coast to Laie where they had a nice dinner prepared for us. They also gave us some groceries so that we would have breakfast. Next, we and our luggage were loaded into a van to take us to where we would be staying.
On the way to our new place, we stopped to get the car that we purchased back in May. We were so grateful that it started right up and has been running well ever since.
We are temporarily in an apartment in Laie. One of the other residents loves plants so the walkways and patios and lawn are covered with beautiful plants and flowers. I love it.
The next day we began learning our new responsibilities. We are with two other couples in the Center for Academic Success. Each couple is assigned students who are on probation. They have to meet with us initially and sign a form. Then they need to meet with us again every week or two. We also teach a college success class. We had about eight days to learn the computer program for classwork, the one for student records and get our first class ready. During that time, we were already meeting with students and trying to figure out how to help them. It was very intense to say the least. But we worked well together and feel we have a handle on things.
We’ve been assigned to attend a Tongan ward. Today was fast Sunday. Most of the testimonies were in Tongan. The only thing we understood was when a sister said “Eeny, meeny, miny, moe”
Except for being sticky and hot, we are well and happy. Thank you again for your prayers.
